Type material

Syntypes, ZMA, E1028 , Siboga, St. 87, 0 ◦ 32 ′ S, 119 ◦ 39.8 ′ E, 655 m, one specimen ; ZMA E1029 , Siboga, St. 170, 3 ◦ 37.7 ′ S, 131 ◦ 26.4 ′ E, 924 m, one specimen .

Type locality

Pacific , Indonesia, 655–924 m.

Diagnosis

Cylindrical body. Skin thick, particularly at body sides. Broad brim surrounds body. Brim does not continue along front or back of body. Mouth and anus terminal. Fifteen tentacles, each with 12 digits. Calcareous ring well developed. One Polian vesicle. One gonad on left side of dorsal mesentery. Respiratory trees well developed.

Ossicles three-pillared tables with single-tooth spire on top; arm normally ornamented with numerous lateral spines. Table base circular, with central hole surrounded by six marginal holes connected to bigger central hole, with 10 to 12 small holes around disk periphery ( Figure 18 ). Rods present in tubefeet as supporting rods. Tubefeet with calcareous end plates.

Dstribution

Pacific: Indonesia, Philippines, east China Sea, Japan ( Figure 15 ).

Bathymetric range

Depth 365–924 m ( Sluiter 1901b; Liao 1997).
