Diopsis latimana Rondani, 1875 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1875c: 444.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insula Bonae Fortunae (Borneo) , Provincia Sarawak [ Bona Fortuna Island, Sarawak Province, Borneo]” ( Rondani 1875c: 421).

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype ( MSNG): Sarawak / Typus / latimana Rond. / Diopsis latimana n° 41.

PARALECTOTYPES NOT EXAMINED: 2 ♀♀ (one missing left fore-leg) ( MZUF: Box 72): [no identification number] / Borneo, Sarawak, 1865–66, Coll. G. Doria .

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Cyrtodiopsis dalmanni ( Wiedemann, 1830) ( Steyskal 1977c: 32) ; junior synonym of Teleopsis dalmanni ( Wiedemann, 1830) View in CoL , new combination.

REMARKS: Rondani (1875c: 444) described Diopsis latimana , without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, despite there being three specimens in the type series found in this study, from material collected by G. Doria and O. Beccari. Guiglia (1957: 194) reported a “ holotype ” in the MSNG without knowing of two males in the MZUF, which brings the original syntype series to three specimens. In his original description Rondani did not explicitly refer to a single specimen therefore Guiglia’s “ holotype ” specimen must be considered as the lectotype (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 74.6). The additional two females in the MZUF not examined by Guiglia are paralectotypes. Meier & Baker (2002: 333) synonymized Cyrtodiopsis with Teleopsis but did not transfer Diopsis latimana , which Steyskal (1977c: 32) had treated as a junior synonym of Cyrtodiopsis dalmanni ( Wiedemann, 1830) ; we transfer it here to Teleopsis and keep the synonymy, new combination.
