Loxocera maculata Rondani, 1876 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1876d: 193.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Italia superiori e media [north and central Italy]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype ( MZUF: Box 36): Loxocera Fall. / maculata Rndn. , ♀ / 1897 / Lectotypus Loxocera maculata Rond. , ♀, design. Á. Soós, 1978 / Loxocera ichneumonea L., det. Á. Soós, 1978.

PARALECTOTYPES EXAMINED: 2 ♀♀ (one missing abdomen and right wing) ( MZUF: Box 36): Loxocera Fall. / maculata Rndn. , ♀ / 1897 / Paralectotypus Loxocera maculata Rond. , ♀, design. Á. Soós, 1978 / Loxocera ichneumonea L., det. Á. Soós, 1978.

PARALECTOTYPE NOT EXAMINED: 1 specimen (sex not determinable, missing abdomen and both hind-legs) ( OUMNH: Verrall-Collin Coll.): Type / L. maculata Ex. Coll. Big. / Loxocera maculata ♀ Italia, Rond. / Loxocera Mg .

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Soós 1984a: 33, Nartshuk et al. 1995: 4).

REMARKS: Rondani (1876d: 193) described Loxocera maculata without specifying the number, the sex or the length of the specimens, but he presumably had more than one specimen because he reported: “ non infrequens [not rare]”. Soós (1982b: 157) designated a lectotype (♀) and paralectotypes (2 ♀♀) but did not mention an additional OUMNH specimen, sex not determinable (this additional specimen is a paralectotype).
