ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1868c: 237 (key), 245 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus agri parmensis … In Pedemontio [Parmese hills … Piedmont ( Italy)]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype (abdomen detached and macerated with KOH) ( MZUF: Box 30): Sapromyza Fall. / punctifrons Rnd. / 1564 / lectotype / Minettia punctifrons Rondani.

PARALECTOTYPES EXAMINED: 1 ♂, 3 ♀♀ (abdomen detached and macerated with KOH, one with thorax and abdomen partially eaten by dermestids, one missing head and left fore-leg) ( MZUF: Box 30): Sapromyza Fall. / punctifrons Rnd. / 1564 / paralectotype / Minettia punctifrons Rondani .

PARALECTOTYPES NOT EXAMINED: 1 ♂ (MRSN): 7 62 / 772 / Sapromyza Fall. punctifrons Rond., Varallo [= Vercelli, Piedmont, Italy)]; 1 ♂ (MRSN): 9 60 / Sapromyza Fall. punctifrons Rond., Varallo [= Vercelli, Piedmont, Italy)]; 1 ♀ (MRSN): 7 62 / 773 / Sapromyza Fall. punctifrons Rond., Varallo [= Vercelli, Piedmont, Italy)].

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Minettia inusta ( Meigen, 1826) View in CoL ( Papp 1984a: 201, Nartshuk et al. 1995: 5); valid species as Minettia punctifrons ( Carles-Tolrá 2019: 35) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1868c: 245) described Sapromyza punctifrons , without specifying the number, the sex or the length of the specimens, from material he had collected and also received from L. Bellardi. Carles-Tolrá (2019: 34) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (1 ♂, 3 ♀♀♀) in the MZUF but did not mention three additional specimens in the MRSN (all are paralectotypes).
