ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1857: 167.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agro Parmensi [ Parmese territory ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype ( MZUF: Box 6): Melanogaster Rnd. / macquarti Stgr. nubilis Rnd. / 299 / Lectotypus Melanogaster nubilis Rondani, 1859 , ♀, des. A. Maibach, 1990 / = Melanogaster lucida Scop. , det.A. Maibach, V.1990 / = Melanogaster nuda (Macquart, 1829) , det. A. Maibach, 1993.

CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Chrysogaster Meigen, 1803 ( Peck 1988: 136) View in CoL ; junior synonym of Melanogaster nuda (Macquart, 1829) ( Maibach et al. 1994: 259) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 167) described Melanogaster nubilis without specifying the number, the sex or the length of the specimens but provided specific characters for the female. Maibach et al. (1994: 259) reported a male and female numbered “299”, and a female numbered “300”, and designated a lectotype (♀). Not included by them in the type series is the MZUF male because of its sex, and the additional MZUF female numbered “300” because it is not determinable ( Maibach et al. 1994: 260).
