Syrphus unicolor Rondani, 1857 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1857: 123 (key), 128 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in apennino parmensi … prope Florentiam [Parmese Apennines … near Florence ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.

CURRENT STATUS: junior primary homonym of Syrphus unicolor Macquart, 1829 View in CoL and junior synonym of Melanostoma dubium (Zetterstedt, 1837) ( Peck 1988: 64) View in CoL ; junior homonym and synonym of Syrphus unicolor Macquart, 1829 View in CoL ( Haarto & Ståhls 2014: 105).

REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 128) described Syrphus unicolor from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ Foemina speciei a me semel lecta in apennino parmensi, et semel prope Florentiam a D. Piccioli [the female of the species collected once by me in the Parma Apennines, and once by D. Piccioli near Florence]”. Rondani’s description is not enough to distinguish Syrphus unicolor Rondani, 1857 from Syrphus unicolor Macquart, 1829 . We could not locate any type specimens during this study. In the MZUF we found only one female labeled “ Syrphus Fab. unicolor Macquart ”, and numbered “193”.
