Themara hirtipes Rondani, 1875

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1875c: 435.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insula Bonae Fortunae (Borneo) , Provincia Sarawak [ Bona Fortuna Island, Sarawak Province, Borneo]” ( Rondani 1875c: 421).

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype ( MSNG): Borneo, Sarawak, 1865/1866, Coll. Doria / typus / hirtipes Rond. / Themara hirtipes n° 27.

PARALECTOTYPES NOT EXAMINED: 2 ♂♂ (one covered with mould) ( MZUF: Box 72): Acydia hirtipes n., Borneo / Borneo, Sarawak, 1865–66, Coll. G. Doria / [no identification number].

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Hardy 1977: 69, Norrbom et al. 1999: 225).

REMARKS: Rondani (1875c: 435) described Themara hirtipes from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens and giving a range of lengths, from material collected by G. Doria and O. Beccari. Guiglia (1957: 197) reported a “ holotype ” in the MSNG without knowing of two males in the MZUF, which brings the original syntype series to three specimens. In his original description Rondani did not explicitly refer to a single specimen therefore Guiglia’s “ holotype ” specimen must be considered as the lectotype (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 74.6). The additional two males in the MZUF not examined by Guiglia are paralectotypes.
