Ptecticus infuscatus View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 28–30 View FIGURES 28 – 30 )

Type material. Holotype, female, MALAYSIA: Sabah, Mt. Kinabalu National Park, Poring Hot Springs, 485 m, 14–31.viii.1988, A. Smetana, ( CNC).

Etymology. The species name indicates the intensively brown infuscated wing membrane.

Diagnosis. A species with a black frons but a yellow vertex and occiput. Wings intensively brownish infuscated and hind legs black except for the yellow basal half of tibia. The female terminalia with long, rodlike cerci.

Description. Female. Head semiglobular and deeply concave posteriorly as in other species of genus. Frons markedly tapered towards frontal callus, at narrowest point not fully twice as broad as anterior ocellus, frontal index 5.0. Frontal callus prominent but not very high, broad and rounded, in profile about as high as scape is long. Frons and ocellar tubercle shining black, vertex and median occipital sclerite yellow. Frontal callus and face yellowish brown, proboscis and small palpus yellow. Antenna with shining black basal segments and matt brown flagellar complex, pedicel narrow on outer side, with usual subtriangular projection on inner side. Flagellar complex much higher than long, its distal margin slightly emarginate and pointed above arista. Head pile generally pale yellow, black on upper frons, ocellar tubercle, vertex and basal antennal segments, partly brown on lower surface of frontal callus, predominanty erect, about as long as scape on frons and face below antennae.

Thorax yellowish brown, meron brown and lower half of katepisternum blackish. Thoracic pile golden yellow, predominantly erect, about as long as scape on anterior part of scutum and even longer on propleuron, katatergite and mediotergite. Pleura conspicuously shining, bare in central area of anepisternum and meron. Each postpronotal callus angulate but not markedly projecting laterally.

Wing membrane intensively brown infuscate, only basal cell before humeral crossvein pale. Vein R2+3 starting at crossvein, distinctly shorter than Rs. Radial triangle (r2+3) thus rather high, somewhat elongate proximally, crossvein M-Cu only very short. M3 very slightly sinuate, nearly reaching wing margin, postcubitus (CuP) well pigmented. Halter brownish, only basal half of stem yellow. Hairs on posttegula golden yellow.

Legs black and yellow, all coxae black. Fore and mid legs predominantly yellow but with partly darkened distal halves of femora and blackish last two tarsomeres. Hind legs black including trochanters, only basal half of hind tibia pale yellow. Hairs on legs mainly yellow on pale areas but black on darkened parts. Scattered black hairs also visible in some yellow areas, e.g. on fore tarsomeres basally, on mid tibia and tarsus ventrally. Mid femur with short black hairs on greater part of surface and long yellow hairs on posterior side.

Abdomen predominantly black with conspicuous yellow pattern. Tergites 1–4 with relatively broad yellow lateral and posterior margins, on tergites 1–2 also anterior margin yellow (though broadly interrupted at middle of tergite 2). Sternites 1–4 predominantly subshining black but darkening on tergite 2 reduced to a large subquadrate central spot. Sternites 3–4 with transversely elongated and laterally broadened yellow spots along posterior corners. Rest of abdomen, i.e. all apical part beginning from segment 5, completely black. Abdominal pile essentially short and appressed, black on dark parts and yellow on pale parts, long, yellow and erect on tergite 1 and along lateral margins of segments 1–4.

Female terminalia ( Figs 28–30 View FIGURES 28 – 30 ) with unusually long and rod-like cerci. Basal segment of cerci almost twice as long as epiproct and 1.5 times as long as distal segment, both almost rod-like. Proctiger subtriangular on ventral surface as well, tergite 9 reduced into symmetrical lateral remnants, genital furca with open middle aperture and very slender posterolateral apendages. Length: body 18.0 mm, wing 15.3 mm.

Male. Unknown.

Remarks. P. infuscatus sp. nov. resembles P. bilobatus Rozkošný & Kovac, 1998 , with some diagnostic colour characters, especially the yellow median occipital sclerite, the black frons and the yellowish brown scutum. On the other hand, the colour of the legs and abdomen seems to be highly specific. Owing to the fact that P. infuscatus sp.nov. is based on a unique female, the male terminalia could not be compared.
