Mycobank MB823628

Basionym:— Hemithecium balaghatense Adaw. & Makhija View in CoL [as Hemithecium balaghattensis ], Mycotaxon 92: 388 (2005).

This species is characterized by a dark grey to greenish grey thallus, prominent to sessile lirellae with a constricted base, a complete thalline cover and a usually slit-like, sometimes slightly open disc, (7–)10–14-trans-septate amyloid ascospores, 20–50 x 6–8 μm and the presence of stictic acid (major), norstictic acid (major), constictic acid (submajor), peristictic acid (minor) and hypostictic acid (minor).

Distribution and habitat:—The species is known from India and is here reported for the first time from Thailand where it was found growing on bark of a deciduous tree in a light forest.

Material from Thailand examined:— Kanchanaburi Province: Sangkhlaburi district ; parking area of Wat Wang Wiwegkaram (Wat Mon), in a light deciduous forest on bark, 210 m, 15°07’55’’ N, 98°26’48’’ E, 17 December 2015, J. Sutjaritturakan & K. Kalb 41380 (Hb. K. & J. Kalb).

Remarks:—The co-occurrence of stictic and norstictic acids, both as major constituents is rare. Two other Graphis species with an uncarbonized exciple are reported for Thailand, viz. Graphis aphaneomicrospora (see above), which differs in smaller and less-septate ascospores (7–9-trans-septate, 20–35 × 5–7 μm) and Graphis implicata Fée , which differs in lacking lichen substances.
