Fig. 39 View FIG. 39 H
Rehn and Hebard (1915b) reported from Costa Rica (Puntarenas) a single male of C. spinosus (Morse) , a species otherwise known from salt marshes of California and northern Mexico. After examining the specimen and comparing it to the type specimens of C. spinosus , I came to the conclusion that the two are not conspecific. Despite general similarity, they differ considerably both in the shape of cerci ( Figs. 39 View FIG. 39 G-H) and the arrangement of teeth on the stridulatory file. It is possible that the Costa Rican specimen represents a yet undescribed species of Conocephalus , but until more material is collected, its status remains uncertain.
