Mesoplophora (Parplophora) brevicarinata View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs 1. A–C View FIGURE 1. A – C )
Diagnosis. Prodorsum with short lateral carinae situated lateral to rostral setae. Sensilli covered with 14-15 cilia. Exobothridial setae minute. Ventral region with 8 pairs of setae.
Description. Measurements of holotype: prodorsum: length 202, width 129, height 86, sensillus 88 setae: interlamellar 73, lamellar 63, rostral 53, exobothridial 5; notogaster: length 258, width 190, height 140, setae: c1 53, d1 68, e1 79; genital plate 45 x 30, anal plate 53 x 33.
Measurements of the smallest paratype: prodorsum: length 192, width 126, height 86; notogaster: length 252, width 179, height 126. Measurements of the largest paratype: length 242, width 172, height 106; notogaster: length 379, width 288, height 217.
Small species. Colour light yellow. Cuticle finely porose.
Prodorsum with short lateral carinae in unusual position at anterior part, lateral to rostral setae. Sensilli long, with 14–15 long cilia. Setae long (except minute exobothridial) attenuate, smooth. Distance between lamellar setae the greatest, between interlamellar setae the smallest.
“Notogaster” with 8 pairs, fairly long setae. Setae c1 and c2 remote from anterior border, setae c3 near the border.
Ventral region. Ventral plate with 8 pairs of setae. Genital plates with 7 pairs of minute setae in arrangement: 2: 5. Anal plates with 3 pairs of setae.
Types. Holotype and 14 paratypes: SU-1.
Comparison. The new species may be differentiated from its congeners by the presence of following combination of characters: short lateral carinae in the anterior part of prodorsum and the presence very small exobothridial setae. Short lateral carinae are present in Mesoplophora (Parplophora) pulchra Sellnick, 1928 , and very small exobothridial setae are present in Mesoplophora (Parplophora) japonica Aoki, 1970 .
Etymology. The specific epithet brevicarinata refers to the short lateral carinae of the prodorsum.
