Arphthicarus pachetos sp. nov.
( Figs 6. A–G View FIGURE 6. A – G )
Diagnosis. Lateral carinae of prodorsum very long. Sensilli very long with fusiform head. Lamellar setae fine, very short. Rostral setae rigid, thick, rough, obtuse distally. Setae h of mentum vestigial. Setae ad2 longer than other setae of anoadanal plates.
Description. Measurements of holotype: prodorsum: length 202, width 129, height 68, sensillus 68, setae: interlamellar 81, lamellar 13, rostral 53, exobothridial 8; notogaster: length 353, width 252, height 242, c1 73, h1 68, p1 58; genitoaggenital plate 91 x 73, anoadanal plate 139 x 72.
Measurements of the smallest paratype: prodorsum: length 202, width 141, height 81; notogaster: length 379, width 263, height 227. Measurements of the largest paratype: length 232, width 187, height 91; notogaster: length 459, width 338, height 273.
Colour brown. Cuticle well sculptured, covered with distinct foveae.
Prodorsum with very long lateral carinae reach the end of rostrum. Sigillar fields distinct, median one broader than the laterals. Sensilli long, with narrow pedicel and fusiform head covered with cilia. Interlamellar setae rigid, erect, covered with small spines in distal half. Lamellar setae very short spiniform, smooth. Rostral setae rigid, thick, rough, obtuse distally; in> ro> le> ex.
Notogaster with setae rather short (c1 <c1–d1), rigid, covered with small spines in distal half. Setae c1 and c2 situated close to the anterior border, setae c3 shifted from the border. Vestigial setae f1 placed posterior to setae h1. Two pairs of lyrifissures, ia and im, present.
Ventral region. Setae h of mentum vestigial. Genitoaggenital plates with nine pairs of genital setae with arrangement: 4+2: 3. Anoadanal plates each with five pairs of rough setae, setae ad2 distinctly longer than other setae.
Legs. Formula of setae and solenidia of complete type. Setae d of femora I slightly remote from distal end of segment.
Types. Holotype and 6 paratypes: BO-2.
Comparison. The new species is slightly similar to Arphthicarus ineptus ( Niedbała, 1984) by the length and shape of notogastral setae and length and location of setae at anoadanal plates but differs from it by the longer lateral carinae of prodorsum, longer sensilli, rigid, thick and obtuse distally rostral setae and vestigial setae h of mentum.
Etymology. The specific name pachetos is latinized Greek for “thick” or “stout” and refers to shape and size of rostral setae.
