Type material. CHINA, Fujian Province: Holotype male from Wuyishan City, Wuyishan National Nature Reserve , 27.74°N, 117.68°E, 740 m, 23 May 2019 , Y. Zhong & Y. Zhu leg. ( CBEE, LJ02390 ) GoogleMaps . Paratypes: 2 males, 7 females, with same data as for holotype ( CBEE, LJ02358 – LJ02364 , LJ02388 – LJ02389 ) GoogleMaps .
Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin adjective papilionaceus, -a, - um, meaning “butterfly-shaped”, referring to the shape of LL in ventral view; adjective.
Diagnosis. This new species is similar to P. bicruris Quan et al., 2014 ( Quan et al. 2014) in having bifurcate E reaching beyond the alveolus margin distally, thin embolic tip, tegulum reduced to the proximal half of alveolus, anterior and posterior margins of LL forming X-shaped, but can be distinguished by the following characters: 1) E with small subapical triangular projection, and slightly wider tip; 2) EP distinctly curved; 3) Margins of LL curved (tip of E filiform, EP straight, anterior margins of LL almost parallel to posterior margins in P. bicruris ).
MALE (LJ02390): Measurements: Medium sized. Body length 10.7–11.4, DS length 5.5, width 5.1, OS length 5.4, width 3.5. Eyes: AME 0.19, ALE 0.29, PME 0.21, PLE 0.25,AME–AME 0.21,AME–ALE 0.13, PME– PME 0.27, PME–PLE 0.40, AME–PME 0.37, ALE–PLE 0.24, CH AME 0.42, CH ALE 0.39. Spination: Pp 131, 101, 2121; Fe I–II 323, III–IV 322; Pa I–III 101, IV 100; Ti I–II 2228, III–IV 2126; Mt I–II 2024, III 3025, IV 3036. Measurements of palps and legs: Pp 8.4 (2.7, 1.1, 1.5, –, 3.1); I 28.5 (8.3, 2.5, 8.1, 7.4, 2.0); II 33.8 (9.5, 3.0, 10.0, 8.5, 2.8); III 25.0 (7.6, 2.1, 7.0, 6.7, 1.6); IV 29.2 (9.0, 1.8, 7.7, 8.2, 2.5). Leg formula: II-IV-I-III. Cheliceral furrow with ca. 21 denticles.
Palp ( Figs 195A–C View FIGURE 195 ): As in diagnosis. C arising from T at 11:30–12:00 o’clock position. E arising from T at 9:00 o’clock position, with the basal part folded. Spermophor S-shaped, running almost centrally through T in ventral view, forming a right-angled bend in prolateral view. RTA arising medially from Ti. dRTA long and finger-like. vRTA wide and marginally folded.
Colouration ( Figs 197A–B View FIGURE 197 ): DS yellow with dark spots and setae. Fovea and striae distinctly marked. OS dorsally yellow with reddish brown pattern leaving pairs of yellow lateral windows. OS ventrally with reddish brown marks, irregularly arranged.
FEMALE (LJ02358): Measurements: Medium sized. Body length 12.6–13.9, DS length 6.2, width 5.7, OS length 7.5, width 5.4. Eyes: AME 0.18, ALE 0.29, PME 0.22, PLE 0.25, AME–AME 0.22, AME–ALE 0.15, PME–PME 0.28, PME–PLE 0.43, AME–PME 0.36, ALE–PLE 0.31, CH AME 0.44, CH ALE 0.35. Spination: Pp 131, 101, 2121, 1014; Fe I–III 323, IV 331; Pa I–IV 100; Ti I–II 2228, III–IV 2126; Mt I–II 2024, III 2026, IV 3036. Measurements of palps and legs: Pp 8.3 (2.3, 1.3, 1.7, –, 3.0); I 24.7 (7.3, 2.7, 7.2, 6.5, 1.8); II 28.2 (7.9, 2.9, 8.1, 7.0, 2.3); III 20.2 (6.2, 1.8, 5.6, 5.0, 1.6); IV 23.9 (7.6, 1.4, 6.1, 6.7, 2.1). Leg formula: II-I-IV-III. Cheliceral furrow with ca. 19 denticles.
Epigyne ( Figs 196A–C View FIGURE 196 ): As in diagnosis. EF almost twice as wide as long. Anterior margins of LL wide Vshaped. LL touching each other in one point at the median line. FW well developed. FD more than half as long as FW, situated postero-laterally.
Colouration ( Figs 197C–D View FIGURE 197 ): As in male, generally brighter. Windos on dorsal OS slightly reddish-brown; some dots on ventral OS fused indicating a darker median band.
Distribution. China (Fujian Province).
