Type material. CHINA, Chongqing Municipality: Holotype male from Wulong District, Baima Shan [29.26°N, 107.55°E], 1154 m, 14 June 1990. ( IOZ, IOZ0002 ). GoogleMaps

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin adjective apiculiformis ,- is,- e,meaning “lanceolate”, referring to the sharp tip of E; adjective.

Diagnosis. The male of P. apiculiformis Zhang, Jäger & Liu , spec. nov. is similar to that of P. putaoensis Zhao & Li, 2018 ( Jiang et al. 2018) by E sickle-shaped, but can be distinguished by the following combination of characters: 1) EP obviously in ventral view; 2) RTA simple without additional apophysis (EP indistinct, dRTA finger-like, vRTA broad and humble in P. putaoensis ).

MALE (IOZ0002): Measurements: Small sized. Body length 7.8, DS length 3.8, width 3.4, OS length 4.0, width 2.5. Eyes: AME 0.18, ALE 0.25, PME 0.20, PLE 0.22, AME–AME 0.17, AME–ALE 0.09, PME–PME 0.21, PME–PLE 0.33, AME–PME 0.29, ALE–PLE 0.25, CH AME 0.39, CH ALE 0.32. Spination: Pp 131, 101, 2111; Fe I–II 323, III 322, IV 331; Pa I–III 101, IV 000; Ti I–II 2226, III–IV 2126; Mt I–II 2024, III 3025, IV 3036. Measurements of palps and legs: Pp 5.4 (1.4, 0.8, 1.2, –, 2.0); I 19.2 (5.8, 2.0, 5.4, 4.4, 1.6); II 26.1 (7.2, 2.5, 8.1, 6.3, 2.0); III 16.6 (5.0, 1.7, 4.6, 4.0, 1.3); IV 20.2 (6.4, 1.2, 5.1, 5.7, 1.8). Leg formula: II-IV-I-III. Cheliceral furrow with ca. 16 denticles.

Palp ( Figs 14A–C View FIGURE 14 ): As in diagnosis. C arising from T at 12:00 o’clock position, basally wrinkled. E arising from T at 9:00 o’clock position with its apical part filiform sickle-shaped. Spermophor visible and U-shaped in ventral view. Part of EP hidden behind T in ventral view. RTA straight, tapering to tip, arising proximally to medially from Ti.

Colouration ( Figs 15A–B View FIGURE 15 ): DS light yellow with dark spots along striae and in front of fovea, margin with thin dashed line and brown patterns. Fovea marked. OS dorsally cream white with reddish brown pattern composed of densely distributed reddish-brown dots, ventrally with reddish brown marks, irregularly arranged.
