Karaops yurlburr View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 9–12 View FIGURES 9 – 14 , 37 View FIGURE 37 )

Type material. Holotype: female, 2.3 km ESE of Python Pool, SITE PW01 [21˚20’22.8” S 117˚15’36.3” E, Western Australia, Australia], 16 July 2003 – 11 October 2004, CALM PILBARA SURVEY, ethylene glycol pitfalls (WAM T79403).

Paratype: 1 male, same data as holotype, (WAM T79403).

Other material examined. AUSTRALIA: Western Australia: 2 penultimate males, 5 immatures, same data as holotype and paratype (WAM T79403).

Etymology. The specific epithet refers to the indigenous Yindjibarndi word for Python Pool, the type locality. Yindjibarndi is the language indigenous to the type locality. This name is to be treated as a noun in apposition.

Diagnosis. Females of K. yurlburr sp. nov. can be distinguished from all other species by the epigyne, which has a large medial depression, with the copulatory openings located laterally and the lateral lobes pointed posteriorly ( Figs 9–10 View FIGURES 9 – 14 ). Males of K. yurlburr sp. nov. can be distinguished from all other species by having only 2 prolateral teeth and an RTA in which the dorsal branch is much longer than the ventral branch ( Figs 11–12 View FIGURES 9 – 14 ).

Description. Female (holotype):

Colour. Dorsal shield of prosoma uniformly yellow-brown; sternum pale yellow-brown; chelicerae pale yellow with darker infuscations anteriorly; maxillae pale yellow; labium pale brown, lightening distally; opisthosoma dorsally yellow-brown with darker markings; ventrally pale yellow-brown; legs yellow brown with darker annulations, legs darkening distally.

Prosoma. 0.90 times longer than broad; clypeus 0.18 high.

Eyes. AER slightly recurved; PER recurved; PME larger than AME, PLE largest, ALE smallest; eye group width 1.23; eye diameters, AME 0.20, ALE 0.11, PME 0.29, PLE 0.36; interdistances AME-ALE 0.38, PME-PLE 0.36, ALE-PLE 0.25, AME-PME 0.02; ocular quadrangle AME-AME 0.13, PME-PME 0.45.

Sternum. 0.80 times longer than broad.

Chelicerae. Promargin with 3 teeth, retromargin with 2 teeth.

Female pedipalp. Claw with ca. 6 teeth.

Epigyne ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 9 – 14 ). Lateral lobes distinct, nearly touching posteriorly; medially, epigynal plate with large depression, rounded anteriorly, undulate posteriorly; copulatory openings located laterally.

Vulva ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 9 – 14 ). Medially projecting v-shaped area; large copulatory ducts extending posterolaterally to elongate spermathecae, directed anteriorly; a second, smaller pair of spermathecae located at the junction between the copulatory ducts and the larger pair of spermathecae; fertilisation ducts directed anterolaterally, small posterodorsal fold present.

Opisthosoma. Unclear if caudal setal tufts are present because the opisthosoma is damaged.

Legs. Leg I slightly shorter than II and III; leg formula unknown (at least one leg missing); leg III longest; tarsal claws without teeth; spination: leg I, Fm pr 1-1-1, d 1-1-1, rl 0; Ti d 0, v 2-2 -2-2-2; Mt v 2-2 -2-2; leg II, Fm pr 0-0-1, d 1-1-1, rl 0; Ti v 2-2 -2-2-2; Mt v 2-2 -2-2; leg III, Fm pr 0-0-1, d 1-1-1, rl 0; Ti v 1-1 -0; Mt v 2 -0.
