Genus Spartolus Stål, 1877

Synonyms: Threciscus syn. nov. (type species T. pugionatus ), justified bellow.

Species included: S. minax (Walker, 1871) . S. pugionatus Stål, 1877 and S. tricostatus Bolívar, 1887 , all endemic to the Philippines.

Type species: Spartolus longiceps Stål, 1877 (= synonym of Spartolus minax (Walker, 1871) , by subsequent designation by Günther (1939).

Justification of the synonymy and updated diagnosis. Tumbrinck & Skejo (2017) reported that genera Threciscus and Spartolus differ in Threciscus lacking foliaceous, modified maxillary palpy. This is incorrect and by detailed inspection we observed that all our specimens have foliaceous apical segments of maxillary palpi. Those segments are not as widened as in other species and as in Ophiotettix , but are surely widened. Spartolus pugionatus comb. resurr. is thus put back into the genus Spartolus , as it has less differences from S. tricostatus than S. tricostatus has from S. minax . Threciscus syn. nov. is thus synonymized with Spartolus . The genus Spartolus is endemic to the Philippines and its members are characterized in (1) narrow scutellum (almost absent), (2) elongated head, (3) colorful appearance with red, yellow and orange colors, (4) absence of wings, (5) presence of widened, foliaceous maxillary palpi and (6) lateral paranotal spines.
