Type material. Holotype: CHINA: Sichuan: 1 male (SWU), Wenchuan County [汶川县], Aba Prefecture [阿坝 州], 1100 m, 18.IX.1983, Chun-Lai Liu leg.
Diagnosis. Superficially resembles E. fusca , but differs from the latter by the robust body, marginated pronotum, yellow subgenital plate and vertex ( Figs. 12 View FIGURE 12 A–B; 13 M–N).
Description. Male. General: measurements (mm): body length 19.2, overall length 30.7, pronotum length × width 9.7 × 6.1, tegmen length 26.3. Median size, broad, unicolored brown ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 A–B). Head: round, black; vertex yellow, the area between ocelli black. Interocular space moderate; ocelli distinct, ocelli ridge shallow, slightly curved. Frons black, wrinkled, each lateral edge with a brown spot next to the antennal socket. Antennae brown. Clypeus transverse; ante-clypeus whitish brown; post-clypeus black. Labrum blackish brown, hind lateral corners round, median emarginated. Maxillary palpi and labial palpi brown (Fig. 13 N–O). Pronotum: unicolored, brown, anterior margin narrowly whitish, the whitish part not reach to the lateral corners. Surface generally with many small brown pubescence, anterior and lateral margins additionally with some black setae. Apex slightly convex and truncated, lateral fore borders oblique, lateral borders roundly angled, hind margin slightly protruded (Fig. 13 M). Tegmina and Wings: beyond the end of abdomen 10.4 mm. Tegmen brown, unicolored but occasionally with several small hyaline spots. Wing transparently brown, area around M hyaline, anal area light brown. Legs: pubescent, dark brown, joint parts slightly yellowish; tibial spines reddish brown. Abdomen: smooth, dark brown, the last three segments yellow, median of abdomen with a yellowish longitudinal line. Supraanal plate pubescent, triangular, apex round, median slightly emarginated; two median sclerites sclerotized, Lshaped; cerci brownish yellow, short ( Fig. 21 A View FIGURE 21 ). Subgenital plate plump, hind margin setose, straight, not waved, coloration yellow for the exposed part, dark colored for the hidden part; styli small, right one shorter, left one thinner ( Fig. 21 B View FIGURE 21 ). Genitalia: thoroughly sclerotized. Left phallomere: L1 with reduced and acute anterior part, left with a short process, two hind lobes robust; L2 thick, right end robust, with two short processes; L3 robust, slightly curved, the hook apex thinner, sharped; pda long, paa flat; L8 large. Right phallomere: small. R1M with hind portion expand; R1L thick; R3 protruded anteriorly; R2 simple, with two round portions, median concave ( Fig. 21 View FIGURE 21 C–D).
Female. Unknown.
Nymph. Unknown.
Ootheca. Unknown.
Etymology. The species epithet “robusta” refers to its broad and thickened body.
Distribution. China (Sichuan) ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ).
Remarks. This species superficially resembles E. fusca by the unusual unicolored body among Eupolyphaga , but after dissecting, we found it is close to E. sinensis , E. hanae , E. shennongensis , and E. hupingensis by the robust L3, large L8, small right phallomere and thick R1L, while E. fusca is close to the other species from Yunnan by slender L3, small L8, large right phallomere and thin R 1L.
