As pointed by Jeng et al. (2009), Phaenolis , Calyptocephalus Gray, 1832 and Ophoelis Olivier, 1911 , as currently defined, cannot be objectively distinguished. In this case, we had to identify the species (based on comparison to type material) before the genus. As far as we are aware, though, Phaenolis is the only genus to occur at the Serra dos Órgãos, where it is the only genus with biflabellate antenna, abdominal spiracles in a ventral position, and an abdominal sternum VIII with paired medial projections. Two species have been recorded, but one is yet undescribed. Females and immature stages unknown.
