Taxonomic history. This species was transferred to Bracon Fabricius, 1804 by Papp (1998), who designated a lectotype, although there is no reason to suppose from Walker’s (1874) original description that there was more one specimen in the type series.
Current taxonomy. Bracon cinctus ( Walker, 1874) ( Braconidae : Braconinae : Braconini ).

Type status. Lectotype, designated by Papp (1998).

Type locality. Japan.
Label data. First label, ‘Type’ (round label, with red margin; printed); second label, ‘B.M. TYPE /HYM./3.c.217.’ (square label; first and second lines printed and third line handwriting); third label, ‘ Japan./Coll.F. Walker./ 1913–71.’ (square label; printed); fourth label, ‘262’ (square label; handwriting); fifth label, ‘ Hecabolus ?/cinctus’ (square label; handwriting); sixth label, ‘non Hecabolus ,/no occipit. Carina/no prepectal – ’ – [ditto: carina]/3 cubital cells present/see structure terg.1!/rather Bracon sp./det. Fischer 1980” (square label; handwriting); seventh label, ‘ Lectotype ♂ / Hecabolus /cinctus %/ Walker 1874 ’ (square label, with red margin; handwriting); eighth label, ‘ Bracon ♂ / cinctus (Walker) /det. Papp J., 1997’ (square label; handwriting except for ‘det. Papp J., 19’ printed).
Condition. Rather good, just the fore legs are broken and some parts are mounted on the glue board.
