Stantonia cerdai View in CoL sp. n.

Etymology. In honour of the collector, Jean Cerda, who has collected much interesting material in French Guiana.

Type material. HOLOTYPE, ” (FUSAGx): French Guiana: ”, Montagne de Kaw , Route de Kaw, Relais Patawa, March 1999 (52 ‡ 10’W, 4 ‡ 32’N; Malaise trap; J. Cerda) ;. PARATYPES (FUSAGx): French Guiana: ”, topotypic but: ‘ March 1999 ’; 2””, topotypics but: ‘ September 1999 ’.

Holotype, ”, length of body 5.9 mm, of fore wing 4.9 mm.

Head. Remaining antennal segments 25, length of third segment 0.75 times fourth, length of third and fourth segments 2 and 1.5 times their maximal width, respectively; maxillary palp 1.5 times height of head; eyes setose and protuberant in frontal view; length of eye in dorsal view 2.6 times temple; temple directly narrowed posteriorly, sparsely punctate, smooth and shiny between punctures; OOL: diameter of ocellus: POL~3.0:2.0:1.0; frons smooth medially, shiny; vertex flattened near stemmaticum, smooth and shiny; face weakly elongated in frontal view, weakly convex (quasi flat) in lateral view, shiny, sparsely punctate with long setae; clypeus weakly convex and smooth; length of malar space equal to basal width of mandible; malar suture absent; occipital flange large and rather straight ventrally.

Mesosoma. Length of mesosoma 1.45 times its maximal height; side of pronotum weakly coriaceous near fore coxa, antero-medially finely crenulate and remainder smooth and shiny; mesopleuron smooth and shiny; precoxal sulcus largely punctate, somewhat weakly posteriorly and reaching anterior margin of mesopleuron; metapleuron finely punctate, its ventral border with a rounded bump; metapleural flange absent; mesoscutum sparsely punctate; scutellar sulcus large with small carinae posteriorly; notauli punctate; mesopleuron, mesoscutum, metapleuron, propodeum setose; scutellum convex, shiny and setose; propodeum medially convex, smooth, shiny and finely punctate.

Wings. Fore wing: r: SR1z3-SR~7:35; 2-SR: r-m~9:5; second submarginal cell petiolate; subbasal cell setose anteriorly; vein cu-a sub interstitial; vein 3-CU1 twice longer than vein CU1b. Hind wing: 2-M coloured; membrane glabrous basally.

Legs. Hind coxa smooth and shiny; lengths of hind femur, tibia and basitarsus 5.3, 12.5 and 8 times their widths, respectively; legs setose; tibial spurs 0.5 and 0.4 times basitarsus.

Metasoma. First tergite 3.4 times longer than apically wide, smooth, in lateral view, flattened basally and weakly convex apically; spiracles weakly protruding and margin of tergite angulate before spiracles; second tergite shiny, smooth; T2 1.2 times longer than T3; second suture smooth and straight; ovipositor sheath 0.7 times fore wing length.

Colour. Yellow and black. Head (except a median ring of antenna), inner side of scape, mesosoma, propodeum (except medially), fore legs, mid legs (except apex of tibia and tarsus), hind coxa (except apically), tegula yellowish; base of hind tibia, hind basitarsus (except basally), second tarsus whitish; small patch at inner side of hind tibia, antennal ring brown-yellowish; propodeum medially, mid tarsi (except telotarsi), apical sternites, trochanters weakly brownish; stemmaticum, remainder of scape and antenna, apex of mid tibia, mid telotarsi, apex of hind coxa, hind trochantellus, hind femur, hind tibia (except a small basal ring and a small patch on inner side), hind spurs, hind basitarsus basally, last three hind tarsi, first and second tergites, following tergites except at their base, ovipositor sheath dark brownish to blackish.

Variation. Dark parts of metasoma and antennal ring sometimes dark brownish. One female paratype has 39 antennal segments.

Remarks. This species is closely related to S. rufithorax , but it may be distinguished from it by the longer T1, the second submarginal cell of fore wing always being clearly petiolate and the coloration of the mesosoma and mid coxa.
