Apolinus lividigaster (Mulsant)

Platyomus lividigaster Mulsant, 1853: 286 .

Scymnodes (Apolinus) lividigaster: Pope & Lawrence 1990: 244 . Apolinus lividigaster: Slipinski 2007: 99 .

This species was originally described from Australia; it is also recorded from New Zealand and Hawaii. In New Caledonia, it was not recorded by Bielawski (1972) in his review of New Caledonian Scymnini . It has only been collected in Nouméa and Yaté regions (southern Grande Terre). It is predominantly aphidiphagous, but is also able to use pollen when preys are scarce ( Lundgren 2009). Based on this information, we consider it to be a recent arrival because of the lack of autochthonous aphids, whether by natural spread or accidental introduction.
