Neosyringophilopsis lybidus View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 and 3 View FIGURE 3 )
Description. FEMALE, holotype. Total body length 570 (585–695 in 6 paratypes). Gnathosoma . Infracapitulum apunctate. Stylophore apunctate 200 (195–215) long, basal part of its dorsum with striate ornament. Each medial branch of peritremes with 3–4 long chambers, each lateral branch with 8–9 chambers. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield divided longitudinally, punctate in anterior part, bearing bases of setae vi, ve, si, se and c1. Setae se and c1 located at same transverse level. Length ratio of setae vi: ve: si 1:1-1.3:1–1.5. Two small, apunctate and weakly sclerotized hysteronotal shields present near bases of setae d1. Pygidial shield well developed, apunctate. Hysteronotal setae d1, d2 and e2 subequal in length. Length ratio of setae h1: h2 1:1.4. Setae ag1 4.7 times longer than ag2, setae ag3 6.7 times longer than ag2. Coxal fields I–IV punctate. Legs. Fan-like setae p ’ and p” of legs III and IV with 6–7 tines. Setae tc ’ and tc” of legs III–IV subequal in length. Lengths of setae: vi 20 (20–25), ve 25 (20–25), si 30 (20–30), c1 130 (100–135), c2 120 (100–110), se 125 (100–125), d1 135 (95–125), d2 120 (100– 125), e2 120 (110–130), f1 45 (40–55), f2 165 (130–145), h1 130 (115–120), h2 180 (150–170), ps1 25 (20–25), ps2 20 (15–20), g1 20 (20–25), g2 25 (20–30), 3a (50–60), ag1 70 (6–75), ag2 15 (20–30), ag3 100 (80–90), tc’III– IV 35, tc” III–IV 35–40.
MALE (1 paratype). Total body length 455. Gnathosoma . Infracapitulum apunctate. Stylophore 145 long. Hyposomal apex smooth. Each medial branch of peritremes with 3–4 chambers, each lateral branch with 7–8 chambers. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield entire, deeply concave on anterior margin, bearing bases of setae vi, ve, si and c1. Setae se situated near lateral margins of propodonotal shield and slightly anterior to level of setae c1. Setae vi, ve and si subequal in length. Hysteronotal shield weakly sclerotized, striae visible, not fused to pygidial shield, bearing bases of setae d1 and e2. Setae d1, d2 and e2 subequal in length. Setae ag1 1.7 times longer than ag2. Legs.
Setae tc”III–IV 1.7 times longer than tc ’ III–IV. Lengths of setae: vi 20, ve 20, si 20, c1 90, c2 65, se 65, d1 20, d2 20, e2 20, g1 5, g2 10, ag1 50, ag2 30, tc’III– IV 20, tc” III–IV 30.
Type material. Female holotype and 6 female and 1 male paratypes from quill of wing-covert feathers of Pogoniulus bilineatus (Sundevall) ( Piciformes : Lybiidae ); KENYA, Ewaso Ngiro River, W. Naro Moru, 7 March 1976, coll. unknown.
Type deposition. All material is deposited in the AMU (Reg. No. AMU-SYR.444), except 1 female paratype in the ZISP (Reg. No. ZISP-AVB-011-2908-047) and 1 female paratype in the NMK (Reg. No. NMK-02MH).
Differential diagnosis. Neosyringophilopsis lybidus sp.nov. is morphologically similar to N. troglodytis ( Fritsch, 1958) known from Troglodytes troglodytes (Linnaeus) and T. aedon Vieillot ( Passeriformes : Troglodytidae ) ( Bochkov & Galloway 2001; Skoracki 2011). In females of both species, each medial branch of the peritremes has four chambers, each lateral branch has eight or nine chambers; the propodonotal shield is divided longitudinally; setae se and c1 are located at same transverse level; a pair of small hysteronotal shields is present; the pygidial shield is well developed and apunctate; the coxal fields I–IV are punctate. These species are distinguished as follow: in females of the new species, the infracapitulum is apunctate; the propodonotal shield is punctate, and the length ratio of setae ag1: ag2: ag3 is 4.7:1:6.7. In females of N. troglodytis , the infracapitulum is punctate; the propodonotal shield is apunctate, and the length ratio of setae ag1: ag2: ag3 is 1.7–1.8:1:1.7–1.8.
Etymology. The specific epithet refers to the family name of the host.
