Paratetrapedia (Lophopedia) nigriceps ( Friese, 1899)
Tetrapedia testacea var. nigriceps Friese, 1899: 298 . Lectotype male, here designated, Bolivia ( ZMB).
Paratetrapedia (Lophopedia) nigriceps ; Michener and Moure (1957): 415.
Comments
Paratetrapedia (Lophopedia) nigriceps is structurally identical to P. (Lophopedia) haeckeli , differing only by the color of integument and pubescence. Pararetrapedia nigriceps possesses the integument and pubescence mostly orange yellow, except for a black frons in many specimens. The distribution and length of pubescence, sculpture, structure and morphology of male sterna 6–8 and genitalia are quite similar in P. nigriceps and P. haeckeli . Perhaps, these two forms could be treated as a single species. However, their distributions do not overlap: P. haeckeli occurs in Peru, Ecuador and Colombia, while P. nigriceps is found only in Bolivia. The subgenus Lophopedia contains four additional species with a predominantly yellow integument, two already described and two undescribed (Aguiar, unpublished).
Type material
In the ZMB collection, there is only one specimen identified by Friese as Tetrapedia testacea var. nigriceps . This male specimen, bearing the following labels “ Bolivia \ 97 ” “M” “ Tetrapedia \ testacea \ v. nigriceps \ det. Friese 1898 \ n. var.” “ Type ” [printed red label] “Zool. Mus.\ Berlin”, is here designated lectotype in order to stabilize the taxonomy of the group. Paralectotype: in the MZSP, there is one female specimen, identified by Friese, bearing the labels “ 954 ” “ Tetrapedia \ testacea \ v. nigriceps \ 1900 Friese det\ Fr.” “ 96929 ”, information associated with number 954 on the MZSP’s Record Book: “ 954, Tetrapedia testacea var. nigriceps Fr. , data 1897, Bolivia ”.
