Remarks: Christiansen & Bellinger (1980, 1998) believe that Hammer’s records of W. anophthalma may belong to W. biseta and that all published records of the former “need verification” ( Christiansen & Bellinger 1998, p. 252). However, the description of W. biseta is not complete enough ( D’Haese 2000) and is treated on www. collembola .org as a junior synonym of W. intermedia .
General distribution: Holarctic, with some doubtful records from southern hemisphere.
