The type specimen of this little known species has not been detected in L. Beguin-Billecocq’s collection at MNHN by the senior author. No other material was available for this study, except for the image by Harry Taylor (BMNH) published at ‘Beetles of Mauritius’ website http://mauritiusbeetles.myspecies.info/gallery?page=6 ( Motala et al., 2009), allowing for unambiguous placement of this species in the genus Mascarapion. It is at first glance distinct from M. roudieri and M. richardi in having tri-colored vestiture on the elytra, with pure white scales forming a small, isolated postscutellar spot.
