Type species: Trombicula callosa Schluger, 1966
The genus Lacertacarus Schluger & Vasilieva, 1977 is characterised by having: SIF = 7BS–N–3–2(3)–1–1–1– 1(0)–0–0–0; fsp=7–7–7; (ST, pST, PT´, PT´´) = N; fCx = 1–1–1. IP <900. Very wide scutum, sensillary bases apart, sensilla filiform. Mastisetae present or absent. East Palearctic chiggers parasitising lizards and distributed in the countries nearby the Black Sea. Lacertacarus callosus (Schluger 1966) has been collected from Armenia and Azerbaijan, L. latus Schluger & Vasilieva (1977) from Russia and Georgia, while L. similis Schluger & Vasilieva (1977) from Azerbaijan and Georgia. The two new described species, Lacertacarus graecus sp. nov. and Lacertacarus turcicus sp. nov., are known from Greece and Turkey, respectively.
