( Figs 17, 18 View FIGURES 17–22 )
Foenatopus annulipes Kieffer, 1910b: 80 , ♀ holotype stated to be in “Baker” collection (not found); DeSantis, 1980: 10; Aguiar, 2004b: 19.
Comments
Body length 20.5–31.5 mm. Morphologically uniform, without significant differences between specimens from the registered localities. A redescription is not necessary at this time, as the species remains reasonably well described in Kieffer (1910b). Easily recognized as it represents the only western Foenatopus with dark head, without centrolongitudinal impression ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 17–22 ), gena and temple crossed by a wide yellowish stripe along eye margin, and prosternum sparsely foveolate ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 17–22 ). The hind tibia is always fully black, in contrast with most specimens of F. aurantiiceps Brues , which have the dilated portion partially or entirely yellowish to orange.
MALE. Unknown.
Distribution
Originally described from northern Brazil (Pará State); the new distribution records below clearly indicate that this species is well distributed in Central America and Mexico, while apparently restricted to the Amazon region in South America .
