Diagnosis. Males can be recognised by the enlarged palea, by the small and sclerotised terminal apophysis and by the undulating distal end of the enlarged embolus in the male palp ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 11 – 15 ). Females may be distinguished from other species of Lycosa by the large, oval and well sclerotised head of spermathecae ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 11 – 15 ).
Description. Male (Cusco, Tankarpata, MHNSM). Carapace dark brown with a median paler band, a pair of marginal longitudinal and three radial paler bands, all covered by whitish setae ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 11 – 15 ). Chelicerae reddish-brown with yellowish setae. Sternum, labium, endites and coxae blackish. Legs dorsally dark brown, ventrally brownish, with a black ring on the apex of tibiae I–IV and patellae III–IV. Abdomen: dorsum brownish, flanked by an arrowshaped, blackish heart mark with a yellowish lateral band on each side; venter of abdomen and spinnerets blackish. Chelicerae: promargin with three teeth, equidistant, the median one bigger than the laterals; retromargin with three big, equal and equidistant teeth. Total length 15.10. Carapace length 8.55, width 6.68. Eyes: anterior row slightly procurved; diameters: AME 0.32; ALE 0.24; PME 0.67; PLE 0.51; interdistances: AME–AME 0.14; AME–ALE 0.12; PME–PME 0.45; PME–PLE 0.74; PLE–PLE 1.36. Palp: tibia and cymbium about twice as long as wide; palea enlarged ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 11 – 15 ); median apophysis with enlarged ventral spur in retrolateral view ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 11 – 15 ); terminal apophysis small and well-sclerotised; subterminal apophysis small, membranous.
Female (Cusco, Tankarpata, MHNSM). Coloration as male, except carapace dark brown without pale bands. Chelicerae as male. Total length 17.80. Carapace length 9.23, width 7.00. Eyes: anterior row as male; diameters: AME 0.40; ALE 0.33; PME 0.82; PLE 0.60; interdistances: AME–AME 0.14; AME–ALE 0.13; PME–PME 0.52; PME–PLE 0.74; PLE–PLE 1.54. Leg measurements: femur 7.15/ patella 3.70/ tibia 5.40/ metatarsus 5.40/ tarsus 3.00/ total 24.65; II: 6.40/ 3.40/ 4.85/ 5.20/ 2.85/ 22.70; III: 5.90/ 3.00/ 4.20/ 5.00/ 2.90/ 21.00; IV: 7.40/ 3.20/ 5.90/ 6.20/ 3.10/ 25.80. Epigynum: epigynal plate about as long as wide; longitudinal bar of median septum narrow, slightly widened anteriorly; transverse bar straight, with lateral ends rounded and dilated; atrium deep, wide and with lateral margins well delimited ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 11 – 15 ); hoods small and transversely elongated; spermathecae with large and bilobate base; stalk short and straight; head large, oval and well sclerotised; copulatory ducts tubular and curved dorsally ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 11 – 15 ).
Variation. Ten males: total length 12.55–16.80; carapace length 6.80–9.05; femur I length 5.88–7.95. Ten females: total length 18.90–15.10; carapace length 9.40–7.50; femur I length 6.90–5.70.
Distribution. Peru and Bolivia.
Remarks. Although the genus Hogna has not been revised, Dondale & Redner (1990) presented a diagnosis. Species of Hogna can be distinguished by the uniform height of the carapace, cymbium with two or more terminal spines, embolus largely arched at basis, terminal apophysis sickle-shaped and often double and median apophysis with spur at base. Hogna rufimanoides has all of these characteristics, which justifies its transfer here.
