Description

FEMALE: (n = 9) Body fusiform, 195 (192–200) long, 54 (53–55) wide, 53 (51–54) thick; light yellow. Gnathosoma 16 (15–16), projecting obliquely down. Prodorsal shield 42 (39–44), 44 (43–45) wide; sub­quadrangular; median and admedian lines present and incomplete. Scapular tubercles ahead of rear margin, 16 (16–17) apart, scapular setae (sc) 4 (4–5), projecting mediad. Coxal area with many dashes; anterolateral setae on coxisternum (1b) 6 (6–7), proximal setae on coxisternum (1a) 19 (17–21), proximal setae on coxisternum (2a) 38 (35–45). Prosternal apodeme present. Legs with usual setae. Legs 31 (30–34), femur 10 (9–11), basiventral femoral setae (bv) 11 (10–11); genu 5 (4–5), antaxial genual setae (l'') 14 (13–15); tibia 6 (5–6), paraxial tibial setae (l') 5 (5–6), setae located 1/3 from dorsal base; tarsus 6 (5–6); tarsal empodium simple, 5­rayed, tarsal solenidion knobbed. Legs 27 (26–29), femur 8 (7–9), basiventral femoral setae (bv) 10 (10–11); genu 4 (3–4), antaxial genual setae (l'') 6 (5–7); tibia 5 (5–6); tarsus 6 (5–6); tarsal empodium simple, 5­rayed, tarsal solenidion knobbed. Opisthosoma: dorsal opisthosoma with 13 (12–14) annuli, with filamentous microtubercles on rear annular margins, ventrally with 60 (58–61) annuli, with spiny microtubercules on rear annular margins. Setae c2 11 (10–12) on ventral annulus 8 (8–9); setae d 49 (47–53) on ventral annulus 20 (19–21); setae e 15 (13–16) on ventral annulus 35 (33–36), setae f 13 (12–15) on 5th ventral annulus from rear. Setae h1 2 (2–3). Female genitalia 12 (12–13) long, 25 (24–26) wide, coverflap with 8 longitudinal ridges and 2 discontinuous transverse lines at base, proximal setae on coxisternum (3a) 14 (12–15).

MALE: (n = 1) 165, 50 wide; genitalia 15 wide, proximal setae on coxisternum III (3a) 11.

Types

Holotype, female, China: Shaanxi Province, Yang County, Huanyang, 33°35.23’N, 107°32.26’E. August 8, 2005, from Juglans regia L. ( Juglandaceae ), coll. Xue, Xiao­Feng & Song, Zi­Wei. Paratypes, 8 females and 1 male, with the same data as holotype.

Relation to host

Mites are vagrant on the undersurface of leaves, causing no apparent damage.

Etymology

The specific designation regiae is from the species name of the host plant, regia .
