Ceroprepes lunata sp. nov.

( Figs. 6–8 View FIGURES 3 – 8 , 11 View FIGURES 9 – 11 )

Diagnosis. This new species is characterized by two white spots on the forewing: one round, basal to the antemedial line, close to the costa; the other crescentshaped, distal to the antemedial line, near the hind margin.

Description ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 9 – 11 ). Wingspan 22.0 mm. Vertex with gray scales, somewhat dotted with yellow. Antennae fuscous. Labial palpus grayish fuscous, upcurved, second segment 2 times as long as first segment, 1.5 times as long as third. Maxillary palpus aigrettelike, grayish fuscous, nearly as long as third segment of labial palpus. Foreleg, midleg, and hindleg fuscous except for white teminal end of femur. Forewing narrow, with fuscous ground color; scale ridge short, blackish fuscous, distant from antemedial line, extending from hind margin to the lower edge of discoidal cell; antemedial line whitish, weakly incurved near hind margin, with inner edge near costa speckled, a round white spot, which is followed by black scales to hind margin, outside near hind margin with crescentshaped white spot; postmedial line gray, less distinct than antemedial line, curved inside at M1 as a large angle; discal spots black, connected with each other, crescentlike, the area around discal spots white; marginal line with inside near costa dotted with black, the area between postmedial line and marginal line mixed with reddish. Hindwing not transluscent, gray, veins darker, cilia grayish white.

Male genitalia ( Figs. 6–8 View FIGURES 3 – 8 ). Uncus triangular, apex blunt pointed. Gnathos 2/3 as long as uncus, terminal end deeply bifurcate, with base somewhat wider than apex. Transtilla with posterior margin somewhat rectangular, not saddleshaped. Juxta 1.5 times as long as gnathos, lateral arms with basal 1/2 approximated and distal 1/2 distant from each other, apices of lateral arms expanded, with inside somewhat falcate and outside blunt. Base of valva as wide as tip, with a digital protuberance near sacculus, terminal end of valva broadly rounded. Vinculum slightly longer than greatest width, posterior margin round. Aedeagus nearly as long as valva, 5 times longer than wide, terminal 3/5 with dense microspines, apex with larger thornlike spines. Eighth tergite and sternite both Ushaped.

Holotype male, Sichuan: Mt. Emei (1800–1900 m), 28.07.1957. leg. Keren Huang.

Distribution: China (Sichuan).

Etymology. The specific name refers to the lunate or crescentshaped white spot on the forewing.

Remarks. Although C. lunata sp. n. and C. atribasilaris sp. n. are represented by single and opposite sexes (i.e., lunata only by the male and atribasilaris only by females), we suspect that the two are different species based on forewing size and pattern. C. lunata has a small wingspan; the basal area of the forewing is fuscous; there is a round white spot and a lunate white spot basal and distal to the antemedial line, respectively, the former near the costa and the latter near the hind margin; and the middle area of the forewing is fuscous except for the white region around the discal spots. C. atribasilaris has a larger wingspan; the basal area of the forewing is black; there are no white spots; and the medial area of the forewing is grayish fuscous.
