Length (including tegmen): Male: 3.4–4.0 mm; female: 3.9–4.5 mm.
Yellowish, head with spot pattern often largely confluent in male, ocelli red, often dark markings enlarged on body with faint smoky tint on forewing.
Male abdomen. 2nd acrotergite with trunk widely V-shaped, neck thin, apparently shorter than half of trunk width. 2nd tergal apodeme reaching middle of tergite posteriorly. 1st sternal apodeme with posterior lobes about 1.5 times as long as wide. 2nd sternal apodeme with posterior lobes reduced, shorter than basal width.
Male genitalia. Aedeagus robust, with serrate lateral margin; aedeagal shaft extending to near middle laterally; apex of apical appendages convergent, touching or crossed slightly.
Material examined. CHINA: 1 male, Qinghai Prov., Xining City, 8.vi.1974, Coll. Fan Zide (SHEM); 4 males, 2 females, Qinghai Prov., Xining (36.38 º N, 101.48 º E), 27. viii. 1997, 2250m, Coll. Li Zizhong.
Distribution. Germany, U.K., Turkey, Maritime Territory of Russia (Kwon 1988) and China (Qinghai).
Remarks. The species M. lividus is very similar to M. bimaculatus , and the latter is recorded from the same as the locality for the only identified Chinese specimen of M. lividus . Thus, M. bimaculatus Dai et al. is treated as a junior synonym of M. lividus .
