Gamasiphis Berlese View in CoL (74 described species)
Movable and fixed cheliceral digits with 3–6 and 4–8 teeth, respectively. Epistome with three anterior extensions, anteromedial aciculate, spatulate or lanceolate, smooth or serrate, usually longer than the others (except G. elegantellus , G. elongatellus and G. pilosellus , which have the three extensions of similar lengths). Seta h 3 about in longitudinal line with h 1 and posterior or slightly posterior (anterior in G. lenifornicatus ) and mediad to h 2. Idiosoma suboval, 260–680 µm long and 150–530 µm wide at widest level. Podonotal and opisthonotal shields fused, forming holonotal shield. Dorsal idiosomal setae aciculate or expanded distally. Podonotal region of dorsum with 17–24 pairs of setae (11 pairs in G. silvestris ), of which 17–24 pairs on podonotal shield and without setae on soft integument along lateral margins of podonotal shield. Opisthonotal region with 6–20 pairs of setae, of which 6–20 pairs on opisthonotal shield and without setae on soft integument along lateral margins of opisthonotal shield. Seta j 1 not on prominent protuberance, longer, as long as or shorter than r 3 and Z 5. Holonotal and ventrianal shields fused. With 1–2 pairs of presternal platelets (three pairs in G. holocapillus and absent in G. ellipticus ). Sternal shield fused to endopodal shield near coxa IV; seta st 3 mediad to imaginary line between st 1, st 2 and st 4 or setae st 1 and st 3 mediad to imaginary line between st 2 and st 4, with st 3 in transverse line, slightly posterior or posterior to st 2 (st 3 anterior to st 2 in G. conciliator ). Opisthogaster without platelets between genital and ventrianal shields; with 7–8 pairs of setae on ventrianal shield and without setae on soft integument around ventrianal shield; post-anal seta as long as or longer than para-anal seta (shorter in G. brevigenitalis , G. euincisus , G. furcatus and G. saccus ). Peritreme with straight or smoothly curved margins, extending anteriorly to level between middle of coxa II and coxa I. Peritrematal shield fused posteriorly to exopodal shield near coxa IV, with connection behind stigma wider than peritreme. Exopodal shields near coxae II–III–III fused. Without distinct metapodal platelets. All legs with pretarsi. Genua I, III and IV and tibia IV with 13, 8–9, 8–9 and 9–10 setae, respectively.
