Diagnosis (From photo and original description).
Male and Female. Head brownish. Head with 1 frontal seta and 1 orbital seta. Antenna dark yellow; pedicel with 1 ventral apical seta nearly half length of first flagellomere; first flagellomere 1.7X as long as broad; arista brown and bare, nearly 3.6X length of first flagellomere. Proboscis brownish-yellow. Thorax dull orange. Scutellum slightly convex, angled dorsally. Legs mostly yellow, with coxae brownish-yellow; fore femur brownish-yellow on apical half; fore tibia pale yellow. Wing clear, with a light brown apical band and a light brown middle band. Bm-cu distal to CuA2, A1+CuA2 3X as long as CuA2; distance between apex of R2+3 and R4+5 half as long as M1 beyond dm-cu. Halter pale yellow. Abdomen dark brown. Male genital fork yellowish brown, relatively short.
Material examined. LECTOTYPE: SUMATRA, Ober–Langkat, Deli, 1894. M.Ude S. (♂, MNBG) (Male and fenale cotypes were examined and the male type photographed by the second author in 2002). The male is here designated as lectotype.
Distribution. Oriental: Sumatra. Previous records from New Guinea ( Evenhuis 1989) were in error ( McAlpine, 1998).
Remarks. This species differs from all other Oriental Cothornobata in its yellow legs and pale reddish-brown thorax. The lectotype was not dissected as it is the only known male. Relationships of this species should be reevaluated when additional males become available for dissection.
