Gonatopus festivus Olmi 1994a: 70 ; Guglielmino & Olmi 1997: 222; 2007: 124; Olmi 2009b: 459.

Description. ♀. Apterous; body length 2.4–3.3 mm. Head brown, except mandible, clypeus and anterior region of frons testaceous; antenna brown, except scape testaceous; mesosoma reddish-darkened; in specimens from South Africa, Port Edward, mesosoma more or less broadly darkened or black (in some cases almost completely black, except mesoscutum partly yellow); metasoma brown; legs brown-reddish, except stalks of meso- and metafemur darkened and distal extremities of meso- and metatibia brown. Antenna clavate; antennomeres in following proportions: 8:5.5:12:7.5:6:6:5.5:5.5:5.5:8. Head excavated, dull, granulate; frontal line incomplete; occipital carina absent; POL = 1; OL = 2; OOL = 7.5. Palpal formula 4/2. Pronotum shiny, unsculptured, crossed by strong transverse impression; disc of pronotum with posterior contraction near posterior margin ( Fig. 171F View FIGURE 171 ). Mesoscutum dull, sculptured by numerous longitudinal keels, without lateral pointed apophyses. Metanotum flat, sculptured by transverse striae; sides of metanotum rounded ( Fig. 171F View FIGURE 171 ). Metapectal-propodeal disc shiny, unsculptured; propodeal declivity, mesopleuron and metapleuron transversely striate. Meso-metapleural suture obsolete. Protarsomeres in following proportions: 13:3:4.5:13:19. Enlarged claw ( Fig. 172B View FIGURE 172 ) with one large subapical tooth and one row of seven lamellae. Protarsomere 5 ( Fig. 172B View FIGURE 172 ) with two rows of approximately 24 lamellae; apex with approximately seven lamellae. Tibial spurs 1/0/1.

♂. Fully winged; body length 2.3–2.5 mm. Head black, except mandible testaceous; antenna brown; mesosoma black; metasoma brown; legs yellow, except metacoxa darkened. Antenna filiform; antennomeres in following proportions: 6:5:9:9:9:9:8.5:8.5:8:11; antennomere 3 more than 4.5 × as long as broad (9:1.7). Head shiny, convex, slightly granulate; frontal line absent; occipital carina incomplete, only present behind lateral ocelli; temple distinct; POL = 6; OL = 2.5; OOL = 3.5. Palpal formula 4/2. Mesoscutum shiny, very slightly granulate. Notauli complete, posteriorly joint. Mesoscutellum and metanotum shiny, very slightly granulate. Metapectal-propodeal disc reticulate rugose, with median longitudinal furrow; propodeal declivity reticulate rugose. Forewing hyaline, without dark transverse bands; 2R1 cell open; distal part of 2r-rs&Rs vein longer than proximal part (18:6). Dorsal process of paramere ( Fig. 173A View FIGURE 173 ) short and transverse, with pointed apex. Tibial spurs 1/1/2.

Material examined. Type: ♀ holotype: MOZAMBIQUE: Maputo Prov., Maputo, Costa do Sol, Municipal Agricultural Nursery , reared from Nisia nervosa (Mots.) , C. 11.X.1992 , Sf. 29.X.1992 , M. Olmi reared ( AMNH). Paratypes: same locality label as holotype, C. 11.X.1992 , Sf. 30.X.1992 , 1♀ ( AMNH); same locality label as ho- lotype, C. 11.X.1992 , Sf. 5.XI.1992 , 1♀ ( AMNH); same locality label as holotype, C. 11.X.1992 , Sf. 30.X.1992 , 1♂ ( AMNH); same locality label as holotype, C. 6.X.1992 , Sf. 25.X.1992 , 1♂ ( AMNH). Other material: SOUTH AFRICA: KwaZulu-Natal, Port Edward, along road from R61 to Umtamvuna Nature Reserve , C. 13.IV.2007 , B. 14.IV.2007; C. 13.IV.2007, B. 15.IV.2007; C. 13.IV.2007, B. 17.IV.2007; M. Olmi reared from adults of Sogatella kolophon (Kirkaldy) , 4♀♀, 3♂♂ (3♀♀, 2♂♂ in MOLC, 1♀, 1♂ in SAM) ( Olmi 2009b) .

Hosts. Meenoplidae and Delphacidae ( Guglielmino et al. 2013) : in Mozambique: Nisia nervosa (Motschulsky) (Meenoplidae) ; in South Africa: Sogatella kolophon (Kirkaldy) (Delphacidae) .

Distribution. Mozambique, South Africa.

Remarks. The ♀ mesosoma of Gonatopus festivus Olmi can vary in colour, from totally testaceous to partly black or brown. If the colour is partly black or brown, ♀♀ of G. festivus can be confused with G. harteni Olmi. In this case, ♀♀ of these two species are indistinguishable. However, the two species are distinct, because their ♂♂ show strong differences.
