Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 2.95–3.09mm; female, 3.51mm. Width, male, 1.69–1.80mm; female, 1.80mm. Pronotum weakly cordate, dorsally distinctly punctate, punctures large and deep; scales concentrated along lateral regions, appressed, distinctly plumose. Elytra with scales linearly arranged, appressed, not plumose; sutural stria shallowly impressed and shallowly, finely punctate; basal margin in humeral region with tooth; posterolateral region with pilose crease. Geographical distribution. México (Veracruz).
Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of cloud forest leaf litter at elevations from 1025– 1175m.
Derivation of specific name. Named after Michael Kaulbars of Ottawa, Canada.
Material examined. 10♂, 1♀ ( CMNC, ECOS). Holotype ♂ ( CMNC): MÉXICO: Veracruz. 4.3 mi. E. Huatusco, 3400', 21.VI.83, R. Anderson, cloud forest / HOLOTYPE ♂, Theognete kaulbarsi sp. nov., R.S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted. Paratypes: MÉXICO. Veracruz. Coscomatepec (3.1 mi. N.E.), 3700', 21.VI.1983, R. Anderson, cloud forest (1♂, 1♀ CMNC). Huatusco (4.3 mi. E.), 3400', 21.VI.1983, R. Anderson, cloud forest (8♂ CMNC, ECOS) .
Chorological relationships. Sympatric with T. azteca , T. reprela and T. lakarms .
