Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 2.84–3.29mm; female, 2.81–3.32mm. Width, male, 1.55–1.91mm; female, 1.60–1.85mm. Pronotum in male strongly transverse and inflated, not distinctly punctate, with scales suberect, recurved, not plumose, uniformly distributed on disk. Elytra with scales linearly arranged, suberect, recurved, not plumose. Elytral striae not impressed or punctate; strial regions lacking distinct scales. Basal margin of elytra with humeral region not toothed. Tergite VIII in female subtruncate in middle. Aedeagus as in Fig. 258 View FIGURES 257–259 .
Geographical distribution. México (Hidalgo).
Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of cloud forest and moist oak forest leaf litter at elevations from 1175–1675m.
Derivation of specific name. Named from the Latin distentus, meaning swollen, in reference to the bulbous form of the pronotum.
Material examined. 22♂, 15♀♀ ( CMNC, CWOB, ECOS, MCZC) . Holotype ♂ ( CMNC) : MÉXICO: Hidalgo. 1189 m, 55 km N.E. Jacala , 4.VI.1987, R. Anderson, berlese cloud forest litter / HOLOTYPE ♀, Theognete distenta sp. nov., R.S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted. Paratypes: MÉXICO. Hidalgo. Chapalhuacán (6.6 mi. S. W.) , 3900', 5. VII. 1976, A. Chorological relationships. Sympatric with T. fulgida and T. caviventris .
