Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 3.20–3.51mm; female, 3.12–3.24mm. Width, male, 1.80–2.02mm; female, 1.71–1.85mm. As for T. fossor but scrobes broadly visible in dorsal view; scales shorter, suberect, plumose, recurved, on pronotal disk concentrated in paramedian and anterolateral tufts; elytra with strial regions with linearly arranged, distinct, plumose scales. Geographical distribution. México (Oaxaca).
Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of transition cloud forest, cloud forest and wet oak forest leaf litter at elevations from 1300–1900m.
Derivation of specific name. Named from the Latin terrestris , meaning of the earth, in reference to the ground-dwelling habits of Theognete .
Material examined. 7♂, 5♀♀ ( CMNC, CWOB, ECOS, MZLU) . Holotype ♂ ( CMNC) : MÉXICO: Oaxaca. 32 km. S. W. Valle Nacional, KM 85, 1650m, 26.VII.1992, 92-030, R.S. Anderson, trans/cloud forest leaf litter berlese / HOLOTYPE ♂, Theognete terrestris sp. nov., R.S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted. Paratypes: MÉXICO. Oaxaca. La Esperanza (5 mi. S. W.) , 4. VII. 1982, M.A. Ivie (1♀ CWOB) . Valle Nacional (22 mi. S.), 5800', 3. VI. 1983, L. O'Brien & G.B. Marshall, berlese sifted cloud forest litter (1♂ CWOB) . Valle Nacional (32 km. S. Chorological relationships. Sympatric with T. humilis , T. lutulenta , T. lalibertei , T. weiri , T. dansereaui , T. romanoi , T. peckorum , T. howdenorum and T. fossor .
