Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 2.61–2.98mm; female, 3.06–3.20mm. Width, male, 1.38–1.80mm; female, 1.74–2.02mm. Pronotum and elytra with dorsal vestiture of dense, long, erect, clavate scales recurved at extreme apex, appearing bristly. Elytra globular, striae not punctate or impressed; basal margin in humeral region lacking tooth. Aedeagus as in Fig. 254 View FIGURES 254–256 .
Geographic distributional. México (Oaxaca).
Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of cloud forest and oak forest leaf litter at elevations of from 1900–2125m.
Derivation of specific name. Noun in apposition; named after the Latin fossor , meaning digger, in reference to the habits of species of this genus.
Material examined. 19♂, 18♀♀ ( CMNC, CWOB, ECOS, MZLU) . Holotype ♂ ( CMNC) : MÉXICO: Oaxaca. 47.5 km. S. W. Valle Nacional, KM 100.5, 2125m, 26.VII.1992, 92-032, R.S. Anderson, wet oak forest leaf litter berlese / HOLOTYPE ♂, Theognete fossor sp. nov., R.S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted. Paratypes: MÉXICO. Oaxaca. Valle Nacional (12 mi. S.), 7000’, 22.V.1971, S.
