Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 2.70–3.18mm; female, 2.73–3.20mm. Width, male, 1.57–1.91mm; female, 1.52–1.85mm. As for T. distenta but scales finer and denser along intervals 2, 4 and 6; pronotum gibbous in some males; apices of scales not plumose, fine and bristle-like; lacking strial vestiture. Tergite VIII in female subtruncate in middle. Aedeagus as in Fig. 262 View FIGURES 260–262 .
Geographical distribution. México (Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí) .
Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of cloud forest and liquidambar forest leaf litter at elevations from 1175–1600m.
Derivation of specific name. Noun in apposition; named from the Greek chaulios, meaning prominent, and thorax, meaning breastplate, in reference to the form of the pronotum.
Material examined. 20♂, 28♀♀ ( CMNC, CWOB, ECOS, MCZC) . Holotype ♂ ( CMNC) : MÉXICO: San Luis Potosí. 20 km W. Xilitla, 1600me., 12.VI.83, S. & J. Peck, cloud for. litter / HOLOTYPE ♂, Theognete chauliothorax sp. nov., R.S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted. Paratypes: MÉXICO. Hidalgo. Chapalhuacán (6.6mi. S. W.) , 3900', 5.VII.1976, berlese cloud forest leaf litter (1♂, 2♀♀ MCZC) . San Luis Potosí. Xilitla (14 mi. W.) , 4800', 29.VI.1973, A. Chorological relationships. Sympatric with T. fulgida , T. caviventris , T. distenta and T. tuberosa .
