Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 2.98–3.09mm. Width, male, 1.57–1.63mm. As for T. kaulbarsi but pronotum with punctures shallower and smaller and elytra with posterolateral area with series of 3 punctures. Aedeagus as in Fig. 255 View FIGURES 254–256 .
Geographical distribution. México (Oaxaca).
Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of cloud forest leaf litter at elevations from 1300– 1575m.
Derivation of specific name. Through her support of the Nature Discovery Fund at the Canadian Museum of Nature, this species is named after Nick Romano of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, as a gift from Stacey Elisa Tidman.
Material examined. 3♂ ( CMNC, MZLU). Holotype ♂ ( MZLU): MÉXICO: Oaxaca. 24–26 km. S. Valle Nacional, 1300m, 14.IX.1990, leg. R. Baranowski / sifting litter in cloud forest / HOLOTYPE ♂, Theognete chanbalum sp. nov., R.S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted. Paratypes: MÉXICO. Oaxaca. Valle Nacional (18.7 mi. S.), 5200', 11–18.VIII.1973, A. Newton (1♂ MCZC). Valle Nacional (24–26 km. S.), 1300m, 14.IX.1990, R. Baranowski, sifting litter in cloud forest (1♂ CMNC) .
Chorological relationships. Sympatric with T. lutulenta , T. broadheadae , T. peckorum , T. howdenorum , T. humilis , T. dansereaui and T. terrestris .
