Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 3.20–4.10mm; female, 3.23mm. Width, male, 1.80–2.25mm; female, 1.85mm. Pronotum with small, shallow, scattered punctures; with paramedian low tubercles and short, sharp median carina immediately behind tubercles. Elytral scales sparse, appressed, plumose, condensed in scattered very low, irregular tubercles over disk. Abdominal ventrite 5 with large basal excavation. Aedeagus as in Fig. 300 View FIGURES 298–300 .
Geographical distribution. México (Oaxaca).
Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of mixed oak forest leaf litter at elevations from 2200– 2250m.
Derivation of specific name. Named from the Latin crista, meaning crest or ridge, in reference to the small median ridge on the pronotum.
Material examined. 5♂, 1♀ ( CMNC, MZLU). Holotype ♂ ( MZLU): MÉXICO: Oaxaca. 25 km E Teotitlán del Camino , 2200m, 25.IX.1990, leg. R. Baranowski / sifting litter mixed oak forest / HOLOTYPE ♂, Theognete cristata sp. nov., R.S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted. Paratypes: MÉXICO. Oaxaca. Teotitlán del Camino (25 km. E.), 2200m, 24.IX.1990, R. Baranowski, sifting litter mixed oak forest (1♂, 1♀ CMNC); same data except: 25.IX.1990 (1♂ MZLU). Teotitlan del Camino (26 km. E.), 2250m, 26.IX.1990, R. Baranowski, sifting litter mixed oak forest (1♂ CMNC, MZLU) .
Chorological relationships. Sympatric with T. elongata , T. tomneyeae , T. stefurinoi and T. baranowskii .
