Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 3.20–3.37mm; female, 3.43–3.71mm. Width, male, 1.91–2.19mm; female, 2.14–2.47mm. Pronotum impunctate, scales dense, erect, plumose, shaggy, clumped along lateral margins and in paramedian tufts. Elytra with scales erect, dense, plumose, shaggy, clumped; sutural stria slightly impressed, not punctate; globular in form, not much longer than pronotum. Abdominal ventrite 5 with large basal excavation. Aedeagus as in Fig. 303 View FIGURES 301–303 .
Geographical distribution. México (Oaxaca).
Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of mixed oak forest leaf litter at elevations from 2100– 2250m.
Derivation of specific name. Through their support of the Nature Discovery Fund at the Canadian Museum of Nature, this species is named after Sara E. Tomney of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada as a gift from her grandparents Kenneth and Audrey Armstrong.
Material examined. 3♂, 6♀♀ ( CMNC, MZLU). Holotype ♂ ( MZLU): MÉXICO: Oaxaca. 25 km. E. Teotitlán del Camino, 2200m, 25.IX.1990, R. Baranowski / Sifting litter mixed oak forest / HOLOTYPE ♂, Theognete tomneyeae sp. nov., R.S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted. Paratypes: MÉXICO. Oaxaca. Teotitlán del Camino (25 km. E.), 2200m, 24.IX.1990, R. Baranowski, sifting litter mixed oak forest (1♂, 1♀ CMNC, MZLU); same data as before except: 25.IX.1990 (3♀ CMNC, MZLU). Teotitlán del Camino (26 km. E.), 2250m, 26.IX.1990, R. Baranowski, sifting litter mixed oak forest (2♀ CMNC, MZLU). Teotitlán del Camino (36 km. E.), 2100m, 25.IX.1990, R. Baranowski, sifting litter under shrubs mixed oak forest (1♂ MZLU) .
Chorological relationships. Sympatric with T. elongata , T. cristata , T. stefurinoi and T. baranowskii .
