Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 4.10–4.95mm; female, 3.93–5.23mm. Width, male, 2.42–2.75mm; female, 1.97–2.81mm. Head with deep excavation behind eyes extended onto vertex, excavation separated into two halves by median raised carina or ridge; head not noticeably constricted behind eyes in lateral view. Pronotum elongate, with raised, variously developed median carina extended throughout middle of length but not extended to apex or base, carina sometimes low and irregular or absent; with prominent anterodorsal tubercles, each tufted with recurved suberect to erect scales; surface with coarse deep punctures. Front coxae widely separated by about the width of a coxa. Elytra with numerous low tubercles, each tufted with long erect recurved scales. Aedeagus as in Fig. 100 View FIGURES 99–101 .
Geographical distribution. México (Oaxaca).
Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of oak forest and oak-pine forest leaf litter at elevations ranging from 2200–2925m.
Derivation of specific name. Noun in apposition; named from the Greek bothynos, meaning hole, and metopon, meaning brow or forehead, in reference to the large pits on the posterior part of the head.
