Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 3.65–3.88mm; female, 3.77–4.02mm. Width, male, 2.08–2.25mm; female, 2.30mm. Pronotum subcordate, regularly rather deeply and densely punctate, punctures large, no impunctate areas evident; scales feebly arched, moderately large and broad, not clumped, distinctly plumose; flanks with punctures subcontiguous but no sulci present. Elytra with scales as on pronotum, arranged in a single row on each interval; scales long, apices overlapping; strial regions lacking scales; posteroloateral area of elytra with a series of 3–4 distinct punctures. Male tergite VIII emarginate in middle. Aedeagus as in Fig. 190 View FIGURES 190–192 .
Geographical distribution. México (Chiapas).
Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of cloud forest leaf litter at an elevation of 2000m.
Derivation of specific name. Named from the Latin confusus, meaning confused, because of structural similarity to (and confusion with) the sympatric T. balli and T. galvezi .
Material examined. 2♂, 2♀♀ ( CMNC). Holotype ♂ ( CMNC): MÉXICO: Chiapas. Volcán Tacaná , lower slopes, ca. 4 km. N. Unión Juaárez, 2000m, 20.IX.1992, R.S. Anderson, 92-111, cloud forest litter / HOLOTYPE ♂, Theognete confusa sp. nov., R. S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted. Paratypes: MÉXICO. Chiapas. Motozintla de Mendoza (7.4 km. S.), 2000m, 17.IX.1992, R.S. Anderson, 92-107, cloud forest litter (cut over) (2♀ CMNC). Motozintla de Mendoza (7.4 km. S.), 2000m, 21.IX.1992, R.S. Anderson, 92-112, cloud forest litter (cut over) (1♂ CMNC) .
Chorological relationships. Sympatric with T. balli , T. chiapaneca and T. hortenseae .
