Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 3.03–3.26mm; female, 3.20–3.43mm. Width, male, 1.74–1.91mm; female, 1.80–2.02mm. As for T. campbelli but pronotum weakly cordate, elytra less inflated. Pronotum with subapical constriction demarcated as a crease, not distinctly punctate. Elytra with scales suberect, plumose, apices overlapping on some intervals; posterolateral area of elytra with distinct, deep pilose crease. Mesosternum with deep, pilose, pit-like impression. Tergite VIII in female rounded apically, not emarginate or cleft. Aedeagus as in Fig. 176 View FIGURES 175–177 .

Geographical distribution. Honduras (Olancho).

Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of mixed liquidambar and oak forest leaf litter and montane wet evergreen forest leaf litter at elevations from 1430–1450m.

Derivation of specific name. Named after Ronald D. Cave, formerly of the Escuela Agrícola Panamericana (El Zamorano) in Honduras.

Material examined. 13♂, 7♀♀ ( CMNC, EAPZ). Holotype ♂ ( CMNC): HONDURAS: Olancho. P. N. La Muralla, 14 km. N. La Unión, 1430m, 16–17.VIII.1994 -208 C, R. Anderson, liquidambar/oak for. litt. berlese / HOLOTYPE ♂, Theognete cavei sp. nov., R.S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted. Paratypes: HONDU- RAS. Olancho. La Union (14 km. Chorological relationships. Not sympatric with any other species of Theognete .
