Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 3.43–3.91mm; female, 3.93–4.22mm. Width, male, 2.14–2.42mm; female, 2.30–2.53mm. As for T. braunae but pronotum with punctures larger and deeper, scales much longer, overlapping on at least some elytral intervals, flanks with oblique sulci. Mesosternum with deep, pilose pit-like impression. Aedeagus as in Fig. 173 View FIGURES 172–174 .
Geographical distribution. Guatemala (Sacatepequez).
Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of disturbed mesic hardwood forest leaf litter at an elevation of 1760m.
Derivation of specific name. Named after Jack C. Schuster, coleopterist at the Universidad del Valle in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Material examined. 8♂, 6♀♀ ( CMNC, UVGC). Holotype ♂ ( CMNC): GUATEMALA: Sacatepequez. 4.5km S. W . San Miguel Duenas , 1760m, 12.VI.1991, R. Anderson, mesic hardwood forest litter, 91-61 / HOLOTYPE ♂, Theognete schusteri sp. nov., R. S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted. Paratypes: GUATE- MALA. Sacatepequez. San Miguel Duenas (4.5 km S. W.), 1760m, 12.VI. 1991, R. Anderson, mesic hardwood forest litter, 91-61 (7♂, 6♀♀ CMNC, UVGC) .
Chorological relationships. Not known to be sympatric with any other species of Theognete .
