Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 3.26–3.71mm; female, 3.20–3.62mm. Width, male, 1.91–2.19mm; female, 1.80–2.02mm. As for T. schaubeli but pronotal scales denser, apices distinctly plumose; flanks with distinct, separate punctures but no sulci. Elytra with scales shorter and more robust, distantly placed along elytral intervals. Strial regions with distinct, fine, hair-like scales. Aedeagus as in Fig. 194 View FIGURES 193–195 .
Geographical distribution. México (Chiapas).
Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of pine cloud forest and mixed pine forest leaf litter at elevations from 1450–1500m.
Derivation of specific name. Named from the Latin sylvaticus, meaning occuring in forest, in reference to the occurrence of this species in forest habitat.
Material examined. 6♂, 5♀♀ ( CMNC, ECOS, MCZC, MZLU) . Holotype ♂ ( CMNC) : MÉXICO: Chiapas. 10 km. W. El Bosque, 1475m, 15.IX.1992, R.S. Anderson, 92-103, pine cloud forest litter / HOLO- TYPE ♂, Theognete sylvatica sp. nov., R.S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted . Paratypes: MÉXICO. Chiapas. El Bosque (6.6 mi. Chorological relationships. Sympatric with T. backorum .
