Stachylina platensis López-Lastra, Lichtw. & Ferrington, Mycologia View in CoL 91: 1069.1999. (Figs 68–70)

Specimens examined: — COLOMBIA. SANTANDER: Tona; Río Campo Hermoso, prepared from Chironomidae sp. Larvae, D. Baron, COL3–Tr10; Berlin; Río El Cardal, prepared from Chironomidae larvae, D. Baron, COL15–Tr47.

Comments: —This species was described from la Plata, Argentina ( Lichtwardt et al. 1999). Our specimens of St. platensis had thalli measuring 11–62 × 4.5–9.5 μm, with a holdfast 2.2–3.7 μm diameter, Trichospores were ellipsoidal, with a slight median bulge, measuring 25–34 × 6.7–7.3 μm, bearing very short collar and a conspicuous long appendage. This appendage, as explained in the original description, appears to split into two ( Lichtwardt et al. 1999). Generative cells were short and numerous.
