Basionym: Gillespiea randolphensis Erwin & Rothwell in Canad. J. Bot., 67(10): 3064. 1989.

Holotype: Compression-limonitized specimen No.193-59 (Figs. 25–31); Nos. 8452–8485 in the Paleobotanical collections, Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago. (Previously in Paleobotanical Herbarium, Department of Botany, Ohio University ( OUPH). Athens, USA.)

Type Locality: Road cut located 10 km east of the intersection of U.S. Rte. 33 and W.V. Rte. 219 on south side of U.S. Rte. 33 near Elkins, Randolph Co., West Virginia, USA. (38054’25”N, 790 ‘43’42”W).

Stratigraphic position: Hampshire Formation, Cassadaga Stage, Chautauquan Series.

Age: Upper Devonian.
