Echiniscus bigranulatus Richters, 1908 View in CoL
Localities and number of specimens. II (15), III (10), V (17), VI (8), XVII (2), XX (28)
Remarks. The species belongs to a Neotropical and Antarctic bigranulatus group and can be easily mistaken with other members of the group (e.g. Michalczyk & Kaczmarek 2006, 2007; McInnes 2009). It is widely distributed in South and Central America ( Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Columbia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Paraguay) (Kaczmarek et al. 2014, 2015). It was also reported in Europe, Africa, Indonesia and New Zealand ( McInnes 1994), however non-Neotropical-Antarctic reports are probably misidentifications. Thus, all the records prior to 2006 require re-examination to confirm species identification ( Michalczyk & Kaczmarek 2006).
